magnificent scenery to Lijiang. From there, we rented a minibus (in
pretty good condition!) to take us to Er Yuan in Dali county which is
famous for its hot springs. On this part of the journey we passed
through landscape that was pretty but not spectacular. It reminded me
of Wicklow -- except the local accent is even more difficult to
understand.
Arrived at the hotel late, exhausted after the long journey, to find
that it's a complex spread over a huge area. Our lodging was about 1
kilometre down a dark, unlit track. There may have been signposts to
indicate the way, but we didn't see any. Once installed, we could
relax in the spring pool -- the size of a very big bath -- on the
private terrace. Just the thing after too many hours on busses!
Another dip in the pool this morning, then off to visit one of the
small towns around Er Hai lake today before heading back to Dali old
town tomorrow.
